MedNews Plus, a Physician e-Communication Program, Surpasses 1,000,000 CME/ CE Certificates

Cincinnati, OH - May, 2013 - It started as a way to help improve hospital-physician communication, as well as support physicians in their busy practices. "We knew that we had to leverage the physician's existing online habits so that important hospital news could break through all the informational clutter," explains Dan Ansel, CEO of Private Health News, about MedNews Plus. "And we knew we had to provide something of ongoing value that was targeted to the physician's needs and interests, if we wanted to create an ongoing hospital - physician communication channel."

Private Health News began approaching hospitals about the idea, and today more than 160 hospital sites are partnering with the e-communication company to offer MedNews Plus to physicians and medical professionals. As a tribute to its success and physician usage, MedNews Plus just surpassed 1 million continuing education certificates provided to over 5,000 physicians and nearly 15,000 nurses, physicians' assistants and pharmacists across the country. Hospitals license the program for a geographical area and then provide the service free of charge.

Here's how it works. Physicians and other medical professionals sign up for MedNews Plus through their hospital's website. They identify their particular specialties of interest. If there is breaking medical news or conference coverage in the specialties subscribers have identified, they will receive an email alert first thing in the morning from the hospital, along with relevant news and targeted information about the sponsoring provider.

"The breaking medical news and CME are the hooks that engage physicians, but MedNews Plus is first and foremost a physician communication program," according to Ansel, "And the data shows that the process works." According to physician users:

  • 94% say that they have become more aware of their hospital's news than they were before.
  • 94% report receiving MedNews Plus from the hospital positively impacts on their opinion of the hospital.

All offerings are peer reviewed, and support 32 specialties and 240 sub-specialties, with the added opportunity to receive CME/CE with online tracking. Information comes from more than 350 sources, including over 100 medical journals and over 85 of the top medical meetings that take place around the world each year. The AMA PRA Category 1™ CME is accredited by the Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania, and the offerings are also acceptable for elective credits by the American Association of Family Physicians.

Private Health News' (PHN) award-winning e-communication programs, interactive solutions and e-CRM/Marketing tools help providers build ongoing, targeted relationships with Consumers (My Health e-Recipes and My Health e-News), Physicians (MedNews Plus) and Patients/Caregivers (Patient e-Prep) based on their specific health interests, specialties and needs, while promoting a provider's programs, services and physicians.
